At Association to Benefit Children (ABC), they have set the ambitious goal to count every single one of the children and families they serve. They offer early childhood education, children’s mobile mental health services, a therapeutic after-school program, and preventive services for families at risk of child morbidity and mortality. ABC serves East Harlem and the South Bronx, two communities that have historically been undercounted. To meet their target, they knew they would need children and families to participate directly in their Census outreach.
Teens from ABC’s after-school program have been very engaged with Census outreach. Over the last few months, they have written personalized letters to their parents urging them to complete the Census and created an incredible video explaining why the Census is so important.
