In the coming weeks, the Census Bureau may contact local partners about setting up Mobile Questionnaire Assistance at your location. Connect with your partnership specialist if you have questions about the program. The first two weeks of the program will be determined by projected 2020 response rates which are rooted in 2010 rates and ACS data.  The Census Bureau will send MQAs to events with the lowest projected response rates.  They will send MQAs to locations with a built in audience and they will not advertise them.

If you are interested in Mobile Questionnaire Assistance coming to your community, you can suggest it to your Census Bureau Partnership Specialist. (They have limited staff and particular criteria for their locations, so they might or might not take your suggestion, but you can offer it.)

What is the Mobile Questionnaire Assistance program?

During the 2020 Census, more than 4,000 U.S. Census Bureau staff, called Census Response Representatives, will be in communities around the country that have low response rates to help people respond to the census. (These staff are separate from the census takers who will visit households that do not respond.) Census Response Representatives will visit events and key locations such as grocery stores and markets, houses of worship, community festivals, public transit hubs, libraries, community centers, and other locations where people naturally gather. There, the representatives will help people submit their census response either on a Census Bureau tablet or on the person’s own device.

Census Response Representatives will visit locations from March 30 through the end of census response operations in July 2020.
