Be Counted Census 2020 Patch Program!
Every ten years, the whole country takes part in a Census—a count of how many people live in our nation’s various neighborhoods, towns, cities, and states. The last U.S. Census took place in 2010— Now that it’s 2020, it is Census time again!
The government uses Census information to: Determine the right amount of neighborhood funding for programs like schools and parks Determine how many seats each state gets in the House of Representatives ensure an accurate count and fair representation.
We’ve already heard from Girl Scouts wanting to know how they can help, because they know that the Census is a crucial part of our democracy.
The Girl Scouts of Greater New York just launched its Be Counted Census 2020 Patch Program. We’re calling on YOU to make a difference by raising awareness of the Census and engaging your communities—if you do, you’ll be eligible for a brand new Census 2020 patch, only available this one time until May 1, 2020!
Because it’s so important to get the word out about the census to as many New Yorkers as possible, we’ve made it easy to participate in “Be Counted” (and earn that patch!). Girl Scouts must collect 15 census pledge cards from adults and mail them to Girl Scouts of Greater New York, 40 Wall St., Ste 708, New York, NY 10005.
Once you’ve sent your pledge cards in, please fill out the Be Counted Census 2020 Patch Submission Form and you’ll be eligible for our brand-new patch!
Girl Scouts across NYC are encouraging their communities to #BeCounted in #Census2020. Share these hashtags and tag us @girlscoutsnyc with your friends and neighbors and let’s raise our voices together.
