The Rochester-Monroe (NY) Complete Count Committee has collaborated with Causeway Community Partners to create a contest designed to reach that hard-to-count population of off-campus housing students. They have issued a challenge to area college students to create a video designed to promote self-response to 2020 Census among students living off campus. The 2020 Census College Count Challenge is a terrific idea that promises to deliver Census support across social media channels in upstate New York!

The submission process is easy:

  1. Create a video from 30 seconds to 3 minutes in length
  2. Upload the video to your personal social media platforms using the hashtags #CollegeCountContest and #2020Census
  3. Send email to contest@causewave.org and include name, phone number, college or university, video link

Video submissions will be reviewed by Rochester-area advertising and social media professionals, who will determine a grand prize winner and runner-up. These judges will base their decisions on several content variables, including impact, inspiration, humor, creativity, culturally relevance, appropriateness, and accuracy. Eligible participants include students who were enrolled in the spring semester and/or the coming fall semester and attend a college or university in the greater Rochester area. To get a better idea of what may be created, you can view this sample video created by City of Rochester intern Ayriona Winston, a graduate of Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) working on the College Count Campaign.

Winners will be announced during the Social Media Day Instagram College Party @Causewave on Tuesday, June 30 at 7 PM. The first-place winner will receive $300 in cash, while the runner-up will receive a $200 award. Just awesome!
